February 22, 2016 Park and Public Facilities Director to retire after 37 years of service ADA – Randy McFarlin, Director or Parks and Public Facilities, announced he will retire in April of this year. “It has been an honor to serve the citizens of Ada over these 37+ years.  I have had the opportunity to be involved in many projects and activities that have truly made a difference in our great city, says McFarlin. “Additionally, I have had the opportunity to work with many hardworking, dedicated city employees. I would like to thank them for their service and friendships throughout my career. Their hard work made my job so much easier.” With a Bachelor’s Degree in Horticulture, McFarlin started as Parks Director/City Horticulturalist in 1978. In 1993, he was named Parks and Public Facilities Director with responsibility over Parks, Recreation, Cemetery, Library, Planning/Zoning, Code Enforcement, Airport, and Building/Maintenance Departments. McFarlin completed many projects during his tenure. A few of those include construction of the Wintersmith jogging trail, installation of trail lights, and fishing docks, ongoing tree planting program each year, dog park at Matthews, computerization of cemetery records, overseeing 12 federal/state grants at the airport, and the renovation of the Ada Arts and Heritage Center. “Randy is truly a public servant; he has dedicated his career to serving the citizens of Ada and has been an integral part in the development and success of many vital programs throughout the City, stated Assistant City Manager, Angie Dean. “We will miss his wisdom and experience, but wish him well as he enjoys retirement.” For more information on the City of Ada, visit our website at www.adaok.com.
